MLK 85th Birthday Celebration

Event Description:
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Committee presents the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 85th Birthday Ceremony with a tribute to Nelson Mandela.

"Justice for all: The time is now" will include music, dance of peace, libation ceremony and reflections from the community.

The program will begin with a West African Drumming Ceremony by Jaliya. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Robert L. McKnight, Sr., adjunct professor of African American Studies at Merritt and Laney colleges and pastor of the Rock of Truth Church in Oakland. Rev. McKnight hosts the cable television program, “Education in our Community.” His many achievements and awards include the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award for his extensive activism in community affairs.  

Dr. Ruth Wilson, chair of the Department of African American Studies at San Jose State University, will present the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Award to two SJSU students – Diana Crumedy and Gary L. Daniels.
