Event Description
Paul Douglass is Professor of English and American Literature. He directs the Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies and the Steinbeck Fellows Program, and was just awarded the 2008-2009 President's Scholar Award. Douglass' presentation, "Sex, Drugs, and Rigmarole: Lord Byron and Lady Caroline Lamb in 1812", will acquaint us with Lady Lamb (an ancestor of Princess Diana and the niece of the Duchess of Devonshire), the most infamous of Lord Byron's lovers with a reputation for crazy behavior. Lord Byron's exploits outstrip Lamb's by miles raising the question, has every aristocrat in the Regency period gone completely off the deep end?
This Series is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Office of the Provost, and Spartan Bookstore. Join the "SJSU University Scholar Series" Facebook group page!
