| Go Forward with Backward Design: Course Design Process and Tools |
|
Event Description
This workshop provides practical and resourceful instructional design theories and practice to enable faculty and developers to rethink a course design or to start a new course. Workshop participants will appreciate the benefits of a student-centered course design that aligns performance competency with the learning objectives. Through discussions and group work participants will learn to understand student needs, analyze a course outline, identify performance competency, formulate learning goals and objectives for reaching the outcomes, and design strategic activities to facilitate the learning process. Backward Design model, Bloom’s taxonomy, and the Six Facets of Understanding will be used as the major references in this workshop.
Participants are highly encouraged to bring with them a course design plan or materials from a current course, such as a syllabus, course materials, etc.
This workshop is part of a Course Design program (CD) at the Center for Faculty Development that promotes applying pedagogy and instructional technology to enhance student-centered learning experience. The CD Program’s rewards include: At least five hours of one-on-one instructional design support per semester up to two semesters; receive a certificate of completion after attending at least five Center for Faculty Development workshops related to course design; receive recognition and showcase the course design through the Center for Faculty Development; and receive recognition with a Hall of Fame Plaque for your completed course design.
