Dept of Physics and Astronomy Seminar: Zhigang Chen
Start Date: 12/4/2014Start Time: 4:30 PM

Event Description:
From Solitons to Accelerating Beams: What do we do with light?” by Zhigang Chen, Department of Physics and Astronomy, San Francisco State University
Abstract: Overview of our recent work on optical control of light beams/particles with intelligently designed photonic lattices/nonconventional optical beams. I will focus on presenting our recent work on optical trapping and manipulation of micro-beads, airborne particles and bacteria with specially designed optical beams, including optical propelling beams, optical bottle beams, and self-accelerating and auto-focusing Airy beams, we well as self-trapping and self-induced transparency in nonlinear dielectric and metallic nanosuspensions.
