Brunch & Learn: Campus Reading Program
Start Date: 3/20/2019Start Time: 10:30 AM
End Date: 3/20/2019End Time: 11:30 AM

Event Description:
Please join us for a breakfast session to learn more about SJSU's Campus Reading Program, and to think about ways you might incorporate next year's selection into your teaching. The 2019 campus reading book is Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot, and the Battle for the American Dream, by Joshua Davis. Published in 2014, Spare Parts tells the story of four Mexican-American teenage boys who are inspired by their high school teachers to participate in a national Robotics competition. Through a combination of individual perseverance, teamwork, and strong mentoring, the team ends up winning this prestigious competition. While telling this inspiring story, Spare Parts also highlights the disparities in opportunities and life outcomes for undocumented immigrants. We look forward to having a stimulating and fruitful discussion with you!  Conversation led by Kathleen McSharry (Professor of English & Campus Reading Program Director).
