Laura Cunningham: Powers of Observation (Tuesday Night Lecture Series)
Start Date: 11/7/2017Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 11/7/2017End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description:
Painting scenes and landscapes in the open air has been a popular artistic mode since before the Impressionists and is lately experiencing a revival. Different methods and materials of painting the oil sketch that Laura Cunningham uses are examined from the 18th and 19th Centuries and these are compared to modern plein air practices. Many things have changed, but the usefulness of training the artist’s eye is still important and significantly informs Cunningham’s studio practice.

Tuesday Night Lecture Series:
An acclaimed weekly lecture series brings in artists, designers, and critical theorists from around the world, broadening the students’ experiential base and complementing local offerings. All lectures and exhibitions are open to the general public free of charge. Unless otherwise indicated, all presentations will be held in the Art Building, Room #133, from 5-6pm.
