Disability at Work
Start Date: 5/4/2017Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 5/4/2017End Time: 1:15 PM

Event Description:
This event is designed toward expanding the awareness of the largest minority group in the world and in the United States: people with disabilities. Our guest speakers from Google and SAP Ariba will share opportunities involved in the implementation of accessibility and inclusion strategies. With their innovative approaches, the presenters will invite the audience to explore a new perspective of the concept of disability.

The students enrolled in COMM 132F Dis/Ability Communication, taught by Professor Bettina Brockmann, will moderate and coordinate the event. There will be three guest speakers: Victor Tsaran from Google, Karo Caran from Adecco at Google, and Joseph Fox from SAP Ariba.

- Victor Tsaran is the Technical Program Manager at Google and focuses on making Google social products accessible for all. In his presentation, he will not only talk about his work at Google but also about his own transformation through technology to address society’s assumptions of his abilities.

- Karo Caran has co-taught a number of courses with Victor in India and Southeast Asia, ranging from training blind students how to use computers to overcoming taboos in order to become leaders. She currently works as a contractor at Google as Accessibility Program Manager for Google Play.

- Joseph Fox is a software executive with 25+ years experience.  Currently, Joe holds the position of SVP Business Development & Strategy at SAP Ariba.   He has been with SAP Ariba for 10+ years and has been an SAP Autism at Work Mentor for four years. Prior to SAP Ariba Joe worked at Ernst & Young’s Management Consulting group, Accenture and a number of startup companies. Joe has four children, three of which are on the Autism Spectrum.  Joe volunteers for many Autism groups but focuses his efforts on the education of children with Autism and specifically with Orion Academy, a high school for teens with Autism.
