Event Description:
Our vision is to host a panel discussion, involving a diverse group of professionals representing some of Silicon Valley’s and the world’s best and biggest companies. Given the political and social climate of not only San Jose State University but our entire nation, it is clear that we must take a step back to appreciate the history and significance of our diverse community. Students to Graduates will do exactly that. This event is an opportunity to discuss the need for more diversity within the workplace in America and key ideas which help analyze the past while continuing our march forward. We'll also be discussing professional and personal development to help students ready for their next step in their journey to success. Current students are the next set of diverse talent that will, soon, make an impact in the workforce. This gives both student and faculty the opportunity to network and learn from current diverse talent. As a diverse community, this event will be centered around the need for more (#WeNeedMore). We will take a step back and discuss not only the need for more diversity, but also the need for more access, more opportunities, more representation in leadership, and so forth. We also need to take accountability and will discuss that in order to obtain that goal, we as a diverse community need to be more! Our panelist will discuss: What do you feel the tech industry is doing to improve diversity and representation of women? How can students obtain internships? What can universities do to better prepare minority students? Inform the audience about their journey into corporate America and what advice they would give their former self. Professional suggestions for undergraduates How students of color can find professional mentors, coaches, and other support systems to survive/thrive in corporate America What is the tech industry doing to improve equal pay for women? There will be a Q&A session at the end of the discussion.
