Navajo Math Circles - A film by George Csicsery
Start Date: 9/8/2017Start Time: 3:00 PM
End Date: 9/8/2017End Time: 5:00 PM

Event Description:
A film by George Csicsery

Navajo Math Circles follows Navajo students in a lively collaboration with mathematicians. The math circles approach puts children in charge of exploring mathematics to their own joy and satisfaction. Applications of math in Native culture highlight the special connections between Navajo culture, natural beauty, and mathematics.

SJSU mathematics professor, Dr. Tatiana Shubin, is part of this awe inspiring film. Dr. Shubin has promoted the Math Circles movement in the U.S., especially through her co-creation and leadership of the Math Teachers' Circle Network; through her work establishing the Navajo Math Circles project; and through many other local and national outreach and educational projects. She has made transformative contributions to mathematical education.

Dr. Shubin and film director, George Csicsery, will host a Q&A after the film presentation. Please join us! Refreshments will be served.
