About this Event
View mapThe nine decades in which Faricita Hall Wyatt lived her life (1912–1993) were not widely known for offering abundant opportunities to women, particularly Black women. Nevertheless, Hall Wyatt claimed space for herself in every endeavor that sparked her imagination. Through her poetry, painting, civil service, teaching, and early work in computer programming, she cultivated meaningful connections and linked those around her to broader communities.
Her life reflects a tenacious pursuit of creativity and community, justice and joy. An alumna of San Jose State College (’35, Speech), Hall not only carved her own path but also enabled others to claim space for themselves in ways that seemed to come naturally to her.
Presented by SJSU Special Collections & Archives, this exhibition invites visitors on a journey through Hall Wyatt’s remarkable life and legacy. A Life Without Limits is part of the ongoing Black Spartans Project, which seeks to surface, preserve, and share documentation of Black experiences throughout San José State University’s history.
