Join EmpowerED for our first movie screening, American Teacher (2011) on Thursday, October 17th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Student Union Theater. American Teacher is a collection of teacher testimonies that gives insight into the demanding profession of being an educator. Screening to be followed by a Q & A session moderated by Drs. Duret and Colmenares (Liberal Studies), alongside SJSU Alumnus and local Kindergarten Educator, Matteo Enna. This event hopes to offer an opportunity to reimagine narratives of teaching and the classroom, exploring both its problematic aspects as well as avenues for regeneration.

The EmpowerED: Re-Conceptualizing Teaching Series brings together SJSU students, faculty, researchers, and local community educators for quarterly movie screenings and panel discussions to critically examine public depictions, perceptions, and expectations of public education teachers in the United States.

Fiscally Supported by the College of the Humanities and the Arts’ Artistic Excellence Programming Grant and Lurie School of Education.
