You're invited to the opening celebration of Kambui Olujimi: North Star and Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley.

Production support for the Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley exhibition was provided by faculty and graduate students from San José State University’s Art and Art History Department. The artists would like to thank Rhonda Holberton, Lisa Heikka-Huber, Zoey Fletcher, Timna Naim, and Xiao Wu.

Kambui Olujimi: North Star

What does the Black body, freed from the gravity of white supremacy, look like? Kambui Olujimi: North Star is an immersive exhibition that features Kambui Olujimi’s inquiry into the liberatory possibilities of weightlessness, a concept he has explored since 2019 as an alternative to the structuring forces of anti-Black racism. Olujimi’s projects implicate viewers in reimagining what is possible, often through elements drawn from history and everyday life.

Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley

Beta Space: Patty Chang and David Kelley premieres a multimedia exploration of the dynamic entanglements between humans, animals, minerals, and machines. Using deep sea mining as a point of departure, Chang and Kelley’s project encourages us to think expansively and critically about the loops—of scientific discovery, resource extraction, and technological development—that connect us with places uninhabited by humans.
