Join us for a short documentary screening and conversation exploring the realities of anti-Blackness in K–12 schools today. "BLACK Impact: The Leaders We Build" highlights the experiences of Black students navigating racism on campus and the gains made through the identity-affirming intervention of the Building Leaders and Activists with Collective Knowledge (BLACK) program. The film raises urgent questions: What protections are students entitled to under U.S. and California law? How can we build schools that truly support and uplift Black leaders of tomorrow? How can we build school communities in which all students experience a sense of belonging?
Tyson Amir is the educator, author, and media producer behind the acclaimed Black Boy Poems memoir and accompanying curriculum. Following the documentary screening, the IEE will host a facilitated discussion to open space for questions and sharing practices across stakeholders to strengthen belonging in our school communities.
