DESCRIPTION:The Monterey Area Research Institutions' Network for Education 
 (MARINE) is pleased to host Dr. Stephen Palumbi for a spring seminar event
 : \n\nFrom science to action: how we try to make the science of corals and
  climate change accessible\, achievable and affordable to improve local re
 efs\n\nThe science of complex ecosystems is itself complex\, often with la
 rge numbers of species\, variable species relationships\, and detailed int
 eractions with climate change and human communities.  As conservation scie
 nce had shifted from preserving ecosystems to include intervening and rebu
 ilding them\, pathways from what we know about these ecosystems and how we
  can use that knowledge to help are increasingly important. I’ll talk ab
 out our journey from a science-first lab to a group putting this science t
 o use in coral reefs around the world\, including ways to engage communiti
 es\, to respond to requests for help\, and for streamlining the science so
  that it is useful even in remote settings. Along the way\, it turns out\,
  the science is not left behind. It gets better.\n\n \n\nThis seminar will
  be hosted in person on Wednesday\, May 13th at 4:00pm in the Ocean Health
  Building at the University of California\, Santa Cruz Coastal Biology Cam
