Exhibition Opening: Pictorial Art Faculty Exhibition

The Natalie and James Thompson Art Gallery is pleased to present the 2026 Pictorial Arts Faculty Exhibition, featuring new work by Irene Carvajal, Lexygius Sanchez Calip, Donald Feasel, Carla Fisher Schwartz, Erik Friedman, Mary Morse, Raphael Noz, and Shaun Odell.

This exhibition offers a snapshot of the vibrant creative practices of the Pictorial Arts faculty, bringing together artists whose work spans painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, and interdisciplinary approaches. Although their artistic voices are distinct, the works are united by a sustained engagement with image-making, material exploration, and the evolving possibilities of contemporary visual practice. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the many ways artists investigate perception, narrative, abstraction, and the expressive potential of pictorial form.

Beyond the classroom, these faculty members maintain active exhibition records and professional practices that contribute to the broader cultural landscape. Their work has been presented in regional, national, and international exhibitions and is represented in museum, corporate, and private collections. Collectively, they have earned grants, fellowships, residencies, and numerous honors that reflect the depth and impact of their artistic contributions.

The exhibition celebrates not only individual achievement but also the exchange of ideas that enriches the Pictorial Arts program. Through their ongoing studio practices and commitment to teaching, these artists create a dynamic environment where creative research and education continually inform one another.

The public is invited to join the exhibiting artists for a gallery walk-through on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 5:00–6:00 p.m., during which they will discuss the ideas, processes, and inspirations behind their work. An opening reception will follow from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
