Allison Leigh Holt uses techniques of expanded cinema and the Light and Space movement to model divergent ways of knowing. Holt is a Fulbright Scholar (Indonesia) whose work has been commissioned by The Ford Foundation Gallery, Djerassi Resident Artist Program, The Exploratorium, the David Bermant Foundation, the San Francisco Arts Commission, Denise Montell Molecular Science Laboratories (UC Santa Barbara), and Cemeti Institute for Art and Society (Indonesia). Holt has been a resident artist/researcher at Sanggar Perbakayun (Indonesia); EMPAC (RPI); the Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science and Technology; and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. They have exhibited at Eye Filmmuseum (NL), The Ford Foundation Gallery, The Ann Arbor Film Festival, BAMPFA, Stanford University, SFMOMA, Cemeti Institute for Art and Society (Indonesia), The North Dakota Museum of Art, the Boston Cyberarts Festival, San Francisco Cinematheque, the Urban Screens Conference (Melbourne), and the Yogyakarta International New Media Festival. They have lectured at cellsBUTTON and Video Vortex (Indonesia); Imagining the Universe: Cosmology in Art and Science (Stanford); RIXC Art-Science Festival (Latvia); After Agency (Poland); FEMeeting (Canada); and the University of North Dakota Writers Conference, with sci-fi author Kim Stanley Robinson and theoretical physicist Brian Greene. They were plenary faculty in the 2022 Mind & Life Summer Research Institute and are a current fellow at the Montalvo Art Center. Holt’s writing has featured in Yale’s Theater Magazine, Panorama Journal, Public Journal, and Leonardo Journal. They pursue Ph.D. studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the intersection of neurodivergence, feedback structures / media art, and ways of knowing.
