DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Turk - Expanding Sculpture: The Language of OBJECTS t
o The Language of EXPERIENCES\n\nHow do solitary fine art studio practices
transition into creating platforms for public experiences and back again? C
reating imagery from a space of vulnerability and passion is intimate and f
eels safe when you\, as an artist\, are alone in one’s studio. Yet\, the po
wer of social sculpture is to ignite imagination together. Communities crea
te memories spontaneously\, in the recognition that personal perspectives e
xist in tandem with others.\n\nA native Californian\, Elizabeth Turk is an
artist\, known for marble sculpture and participatory\, community art activ
ations. Currently\, she splits time between a studio in Santa Ana\, CA and
NYC. She is a MacArthur Fellow\, an Annalee & Barnett Newman Foundation rec
ipient and a Smithsonian Artist Fellow among other awards.
