Join us to celebrate the new mural ArtBox on 7th St & San Salvador by SJSU alumni artist, Eric Vasquez.

Mural Description & Renders

From Eric's proposal: In this presentation, I am demonstrating the concepts and plan of action for the Artbox mural project located at the intersection of 7th street and E. San Salvador. I’ve attached these renders to display the vibrant art that is to be applied to these utility boxes using exterior latex paint. I’ve incorporated the SJSU color pallete along with some natural elements commonly found on campus. In this illustrative style, I chose to focus on diverse cultural imagery to represent the dierent ethnicities within our community. The colors  used in this presentation might be adjusted, if needed, at the time of application.

Eric spent a year refining the proposal, images, and renderings alongside the SJSU University Art Committee and our facilities staff. The ArtBox adopts our powerful statue, "Victory Salute," created by Rigo 23 memorializing a moment of protest by brave and powerful alumni, John Carlos and Tommie Smith at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Read more about Rigo 23's statue and its importance on the Public Art as Resistance in San Jose project.

Join us for this important moment to celebrate Eric and our community partners, Southern University Neighborhood Board! We'll gather at the ArtBox at the intersection of 7th St. and San Salvador.
