Alebrijes have become beloved symbols of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations, as guardians, spirit guides and vibrant companions to the souls of the departed. Representing the bridge between the living and spiritual worlds, these surreal figures embody joy, color, and reverence at the heart of this sacred tradition.

Alebrijes invite us to celebrate identity, honor the dead, and embrace the beauty of the unseen. Join SJSU King Library’s Africana, Asian American, Chicano, & Native American (AAACNA) Studies Center in exploring these magical beings.
