The SJSU School of Music is honored to present the famous Takács String Quartet to perform all six of Béla Bartók’s String Quartets over the course of two performances in the SJSU Music Concert Hall. December 1, 2023; 7:30PM, December 3, 2023; 2:00PM $9-$25.   Hungarian composer, pianist, ethnomusicologist, and teacher Béla Bartók (1881-1945) is noted for the Hungarian flavor of his major musical works. His six string quartets are widely viewed to be the most significant contribution to the genre since Beethoven’s. Winner of the 2022 Gramophone Award in the Chamber Music category, the Takács Quartet has been the leading interpreter of the Bartók string quartets since the late 1990s. Audience members are invited to participate in a Bartók symposium on December 2, featuring the musicians of the Takács Quartet as well as distinguished Bartók scholars.  2:00PM, Concert Hall, Symposium is free of charge.
