About this Event

Have you ever seen an advertisement and wondered how your phone knew so much about you? Or maybe you received a traffic ticket via mail and wondered how that camera caught you running the red light? At what point do technologies stop feeling convenient, and start to feel like a form of surveillance? While we can’t answer the last question for you, this workshop will be an opportunity to work together towards an understanding of the relationship between technology and surveillance.
We’ll begin by sharing information and critical perspectives on the ways that technology is used to collect and apply personal data in areas like credit scores, advertising and social media, and law enforcement. Then we’ll work together to find out what information Google, Meta and other companies have about each of us, and share tips for how to protect your own privacy online and off. There will be lots of opportunities to share your own thoughts and questions throughout. Come and join us for a spirited discussion on an important topic!
