Yoshihiro "Yosh" Uchida Hall (YUH) houses several departments of the College of Health and Human Sciences and venues for SJSU Men's and Women's basketball, judo, and volleyball. Learn more about SJSU Athletics.

Named in 1997 for legendary Spartan Yoshihiro "Yosh" Uchida (1920-2024; '47, biological sciences and '04 honorary doctorate), YUH once served as an assembly center which the federal government used to gather citizens of Japanese heritage in preparation for internment during World War II. The building's name in Uchida's legacy serves as a somber reminder of San José State University's complicity with Executive Order 9066 and the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans and as a tribute to Uchida's work to introduce judo to the Tokyo Olympic games in 1964. Several Olympic and international athletes have trained in facilities in this building and under Uchida's coaching leadership.
